Design and Research
Environmental Consultancy and Sustainable Lighting Design
I’m Catherine Pérez Vega
Designer and Researcher working at the intersection
of Architectural Lighting Design, Ecology, and Communication.

I design for the night, for the people who use it and the species that depend on it.
What I Bring
With a doctorate in Natural Science, researching the impact of light pollution in aquatic habitats, and a Master’s in Architectural Lighting, designing sustainable approaches for urban and rural contexts, I bridge environmental science and design practice through sustainable lighting projects, published research and workshops across Europe.
I conduct environmental assessments that identify real risks.
I design lighting strategies that consider biodiversity thresholds. I create communication frameworks that make ecological complexity understandable.

My work
Authored articles on the potential impacts of artificial light on migratory fish and aquatic insects.
Designed assisted lighting masterplans.
Facilitated workshops bringing ecologists and designers into the same conversation.
Provided lectures on night ecology.
Developed graphic communication strategies through visuals, diagrams, infographics, and photography that translate science into clarity.

The Approach
Evidence-based. Collaborative. Practical.
I believe the best solutions emerge when ecologists, designers, planners, and communities work together. When scientific evidence meets design thinking.
When we stop treating the night as a problem to eliminate and start designing for what thrives in it.
I consider that lighting design happens when we understand darkness as a resource,
not as a problem or as something to eliminate.

I write
Authored articles on light and light pollution.
Do copywriting for artistic projects.

I design
Graphic Communication strategies
to engage readers with a narrative
for scientific and artistic projects

Consult
Assist lighting strategies and lighting masterplans on biodiversity thresholds
Facilitate workshops bringing ecologists and designers into the same conversation.
Provided lectures on night ecology, light pollution and collaborations.

Let’s collaborate
Interests: light pollution research to protect night ecology and preserve the night sky, designing with light, the development of innovative ways to measure and visualize environmental data, designing lighting strategies and concepts for cities at night.
